St. Mark the Evangelist collaborates with various partners to bring robust programs that integrate and augment the curriculum and enhance students’ lives.
Programs support music and fine arts that enrich students’ academic experiences and broaden their appreciation for the rich and often unexplored culture that surrounds them. -
Music Education
Twice a week, professional dance instructors teach students the intricate steps of merengue, tango, salsa, foxtrot, rumba and swing. The program develops the participants’ communication, cooperation, and team-building skills while increasing their self-confidence.

Art EducationStudents in grades 1–8 are offered the chance to take private band instruction. The Paul Effman Company provides weekly instrument lessons for students interested in learning an instrument like the violin. Students experience the reward of performing with their peers and displaying their dedication to friends and family. The Concert Band performs at school concerts in the winter and spring, rounding out a robust and fulfilling music program.

Dancing ClassroomsThrough creative, carefully scaffolded lessons, our 4th and 5th grade students learn the techniques, origins and language of various iconic styles of social dance over the ten-week program. These accessible dances allow all students to be successful regardless of experience or skill level, while having fun participating in physical activity. The program culminates in a final performance open to families where the kids get to show off all their new dance moves.

Library Enrichment
At Saint Mark the Evangelist School Library our library tech coordinator Mr. Ellis works with both students and teachers to facilitate access to information in a wide variety of formats, instructs students and teachers how to acquire, evaluate and use information and the technology needed in this process, and introduces children to literature and other resources to broaden their horizons. With a collection of over 2000 books, our students are able to access books at anytime. The author and Illustrators series has continued for over 20 years including book signings and talks by Richard Peck, Andrea Davis Pickney, Jacqueline Woodson, Bryan Collier, James Ransome, and many more. -
